Physical Abuse

Regardless what you're told, it's pretty difficult to accidentally hit someone. There are instances where one person trips and falls into or pushes someone else but they are rare. Rarer still is the other person injured as a result.

If someone is hurting you they are committing physical abuse.

Physical abuse includes:

  • assault

  • hitting

  • slapping

  • pushing

  • misuse of medication

  • restraint or inappropriate physical sanctions.

Potential indicators of physical abuse

The list below may be indicators of potential physical abuse but it's important not jump to conclusion. It's also important to make sure that any investigation doesn't put anyone at risk:

  • history of unexplained falls
  • unexplained bruising in well protected areas or soft parts of the body
  • bruising in different stages of healing
  • unexplained burns in unusual locations
  • unexplained fractures to any part of the body
  • unexplained lacerations or abrasions
  • slap, kick, punch of finger marks
  • injury shape similar to an object
  • untreated medical problems
  • weight loss due to malnutrition or dehydration.
