Encompass hosted a formal opening and naming ceremony for tenants, staff, guests and trustees on Friday 8th May. The property at St Andrews Road in Bridport was formally a large registered Care Home called Greenhills. After undergoing a restructure into four separate flats, which included a full refurbishment, the property’s flats were initially referred to as A, B, C and D.
The tenants chose new names for each flat and these were announced as part of the ceremony. The names were revealed as Cherry Blossom, Askers View, Windy Ridge and Seaside View.
Encompass trustee, Tricia Mitchell, was on hand to formally open the property by cutting the ribbon. Afternoon tea and refreshments were provided for attendees due to the kind support of Bournemouth-based company, Nourish, who are one of Encompass’s suppliers.
It’s not only the property’s structure which has changed, the service provision has also changed from registered Care Home to Supported Accommodation. The changes to the property will mean that the tenants will live within smaller yet more personalised surroundings. The change to the service means that the staff will be able to provide structured, tailored and person-centred support in such a way to achieve individual outcomes. Encompass recognises that this change is not only positive for the tenants, but it is also better for the staff who support them.
Encompass staff will continue to deliver the support at the new flats to ensure consistency for the tenants. Encompass have also invested in training for the staff to ensure that everyone fully understands the transition.
Development of the property was carried out by the Fairhome Group and Westmoreland Supported Housing Association, who both specialise in supported living for people with learning disabilities.
Wendy Bloss, Interim Scheme Manager at St Andrews Road said, “Thank you for coming together for a celebration in naming the tenants’ new homes”. Wendy went on to thank all the tenants’ family and friends for their support.
Head of Operations at Encompass, James Parsons, was quoted as saying “we are sincerely grateful to Fairhome who renovated and converted this lovely house into these stunning individual flats, where we can continue to give individual valued support”.
