The Staff Feedback

It has been a busy time as MH and Wellbeing Clinical Lead for Encompass.  My role is well established within Encompass and staff can see how my role fits into the Organisation. 

My focus is on the wellbeing of our service users, supporting teams and individual staff members.  This has ranged from managing wellbeing through Covid-19, experiencing loss, or even if people are just finding things difficult now.  Sessions have been held through Teams and over the phone. I actively monitor our care planning electronic system, Nourish, to see how service users are managing.  I usually become involved if there are challenging behaviours presenting. An important aspect of this role is to support behaviours that may be challenging, by offering guidance on how medication can be used more effectively or even discussing techniques with staff to respond in a positive way. 

Staff referrals are sometimes self-referrals, some are referred by their Manager with consent.  Covid has played a part in some referrals.  Referrals are varied: bereavement, confidence issues, anxiety reduction, some CBT work and managing depression.  Sometimes it is the act of talking issues through that helps put  things into perspective.

It is evident that Covid has had a major impact on the workforce; staff are very tired, and the ever-changing regulations are creating a lot of pressure to keep up with them.  Yet most staff have shown great presence and resilience to the challenges faced and have met the pressures head on. 

Delivering training to Managers, to support them in managing Mental Health in the workplace and creating an action plan to combat stress for themselves and their staff was well received. I continue to support Service Managers at their weekly meeting.

It was with pride that my first staff member gave me this feedback after a few months of 1-1 work:
 
“Hettie has helped my mental health massively over the last few months and brought me back to stability and level headedness during times when I just wanted to walk away from a tough role during an extraordinary time.

“She has been an available point of contact whenever needed and is always approachable and friendly; Hettie has always found time to fit me in to her already full schedule.

“I shall miss our regular chats and catch-ups but I know she is available if I need her support again in the future.”
